The idea
A work account belongs to your employer. Work data goes in the work account, and nowhere else.
This isn't about being watched. Most work software runs this way, email included. Knowing the facts lets you use Claude without second-guessing.
What your company can see
On Team and Enterprise plans:
- Exports. The Primary Owner, usually IT, can export the organization's data. That can include your conversations and uploaded files.
- Usage analytics. Owners, and on Enterprise also Admins, see who's active and which features get used. Not your messages.
- Audit logs (Enterprise). These record what happened using ID numbers, not the text of your chats.
- Compliance API (Enterprise). If the Primary Owner turns it on, the company's security tools can retrieve chats and files.
- Your memories. Owners can't view or edit them.
Do
Your work account, the one your employer set up, for anything to do with work.
Don't
A personal Free account for work files, client names or anything from your job.
Your personal and work accounts don't share chats. Work data in a personal account sits outside your company's protections and policies. That's the real risk, for you and for them.
Check your account
Click your initials or name in the lower-left corner. A blue checkmark shows which account you're in. Make sure it's the work one before you start anything for your job.
Then keep this where you'll see it:
Work data goes only in my work account.
Nobody at work can see your personal account. That's exactly why work data doesn't belong there.
One exception: you may have made a personal account with your work email. An Enterprise company can ask you to move it into the work account. You choose whether your old chats come too.
